Hi, sorry that you are encountering such problems.

The thing is, Across is one of the most nightmarish CATs I have ever used but they have very nice and competent help team.

Have you contacted them? Since this software is free for freelancers, you won't need any paid subscriptions apart from your legit Across account.

I hope this helps,

Inserting the inline objects to the translation using ctrl+shift+0 isn't working for me. Therefore I must use ctrl+shift+number, which is not very comfortable, especially in sentences which contain many inline objects. Does any one know of a possible reason it is not working for me? Is there any other option to insert inline objects using the keyboard?

Thanks
Let me guess - you have Windows 10 installed? I found this hint:
In Windows 10 hot key Ctrl + Shift + 0 reserved by system for switching Keyboard layout. To make it work in Across you should change Key sequence in Advanced language settings:

"Remove the shortcut assignment to make the application work as expected. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Regional and Language Options.
3. Click Keyboards and Languages, and then click Change keyboards.
4. Click Advanced Key Settings, and select Between input languages.
5. Click change Key Sequence.
6. For Switch Keyboard Layout, select Not Assigned.
7. Click OK to close each dialog box."

@Vorchuchelo. Thank for your advice. My Keyboard shortcut for switching input language is left alt+shift, so it can't be interfering with the ctrl+shift+0. Even if it were, I couldn't cancel the keyboard shortcut and work only with the mouse, I have 3 input languages, which I use regularly, switching between them with the mouse is not an option for me.

I'll try contacting Across support, as Elif suggested, maybe they'll have solution. But thank you for trying to help :)

Hi Yiftah,
It is not about switching input language, but keyboard layout. Please check the screenshot:
Set it as it is shown on the screenshot and try again. It may help.

How to turn off automatically copied source segments?

All,

my Across Translator Premium Edition v6.3 is suddenly automatically copying the source segment to the target segment as soon as I navigate to any untouched, empty segment. It happens only upon navigating to the segment. All other untouched are empty.

I did not knowingly switch this feature on and would like to switch it off as I now have additional task of deleting the words from the source segment before I can start typing my translation.

How can I turn this off?

Thank you

Peter

Hi Peter,

maybe you inadvertently pressed the "Copy active paragraph" button in the target editor toolbar? Information on how to deactivate it can be found here:

Change colour settings in Across

Hi,

Does anybody know how to change the colour in the "normal" segment? I have imported a Word document (which looks perfectly all right) and all segments appear in Across in yellow against a light background - almost impossible to read. I have tried all settings but can't find any way to change the colour. The most promising to me seems "Profile settings - Source/Context View" or maybe "Kontrastformatierung" but nothing works, neither in the segments for source/target language nor in the field I am actually translating.

Do you have any ideas? Help would be much appreciated...

How do you send the tasks unfinished?
Thanks.

Hi Andrej,

In Correction Mode view of Across, you have a button allowing you to export a HTML file with your source text and translation (you can find this button (icon) on the top of your source text in the middle pane). Hover over it and you'll be prompted. You can convert this HTML file into the Excel format and then do everything you want with it, e. g. use with your Studio. This feature in Across is independent from any permission your client allows for you and you can always use it. As I understand it, this is the only way for you to use your TMs for other translations.

Hi Alexander,

I just had the same issue and came across (oh no!) your solution. Now it seems that I owe you a beer, too...

AFAIK, if you have a Premium crossMarket account there is a feature to store all translations locally while finishing a task. These translations can be then reused for other tasks.

Importing UTF-8 encoded files into crossTerm

Poster: Daffy

Hi all,

I am trying to import some Russian, Chinese, Japanese, etc. terminology into crossTerm.
The problem is that crossTerm accepts only CSV and TBX files...

So:
1) if I try saving my file in a CSV format, I'll get garbled text for the languages above (and for some special symbols as well), as they are not supported;
2) if I save my file in the UTF-8 format, my columns will be messed up and not recognized, while doing the import.

Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

Many thanks in advance!
Silvia

Filtering too long segments in crossWeb/Across

Topic: Filtering too long segments in crossWeb/Across
Poster: Andrej Fric

I need to translate the project (software strings) in crossWeb, because there are segment length limits set and I guess offline Across doesn't support length check but crossWeb does.
So my plan is to translate offline in Across, upload the translation and then check in crossWeb for the segments, that appear too long according to the set limit for each segment. I hope that will work, because working online is simply not an option, my working speed drops almost to zero.

Question:
Is it possible to filter out the segments that appear too long?

I guess the length limits are set by the client (actually my client's client) so I have no influence or information about how it is done and my client is currently not very responsive.

Any help or suggestion welcome.
Thank you.

Hi
I have an account and used to work with the free Across Freelancer version (6.0 IIRC) but have since lost the installation and the .exe. Is anyone aware of a place where I can download that free version? I'm not looking for v7 free Basic Edition, just for the formerly free Freelancer Version.

Hello,

last time I installed Across, if I got it right, there was a system message according to which this was my last installation and now I have no rights to reinstall Across. Is that really so? Can you check it? I was going to install an additional copy of across at my notebook but don't want to disable Across at my desktop PC.

As far as I can remember, the number of activations is limited to seven and you are not allowed to use Across on two different machines at the same time (this is the case for the basic Translator Edition of Across).
The re-activation is not a problem, because you can ask, at any time, the Across support (very nice people) to reset your activation counter.
If you need to download a newer version of Across, please take into consideration that the new version of Across (v7.0) available for download, runs only under Windows 8.1 or 10 and it will replace any other older version installed on your computer.
Sometime it is good idea to have an older version of Across. For example, I still have Across v5.7 installed on an old laptop as it allows me to export the target document.
The only way to run Across (basic Translator Edition)on two different machines is to register on crossMarket under a different user name and e-mail I and to download and install Across v7.0.
The morality of this last approach is not subject to my replay.
I suppose that it is also possible to install Across in a VirtualBox.
