the helpdesk downloaded manually to my computer:

and it just started working.

(I have Windows 7 SP1, the Across version is 6.3, 11786)

Safnil Safnil - thank you so much for your reply. I installed a full version of AVG anti-virus yesterday and had exactly the same problem.

Your fix worked - with one addition: there was another exclusion to add to the list of exemptions in the anti-virus software.

As well as

C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin\
C:\ProgramData\CodeMeter\CmAct\

I also needed to add the corresponding CodeMeter\Runtime\bin folder under C:\Program Files\.

QuickMerge feature in Across?

Does anyone know if there is ever likely to be a feature similar to QuickMerge in Trados Studio and Views in MemoQ in Across. Even Transit has the feature.

The inability to work on multiple files in a single editor view really slows us down and impacts on quality (specifically terminological consistency). It has gotten to the point where most of the translators we work with won't accept projects with lots of small files.

Hi John,

I have been asking for this Feature for ages. This is not implemented in Across yet, but ... maybe some time in the future. I heard that Across V 7 is on the runway. ;).

In any case: The project owner can combine any number of HTML or XML files to one project file with the Across Merger in the CrossGooodies Folder, but this needs to be done outside of Across, before making the project. Always good: Talk to your customer.

I'm using Across Basic and have received a job with many small files. I think I managed to download all of them in one swoop, but I'm using a lot of time clicking through all the confirmations and waiting for the upload when I finish each file.

Is there a way to do upload them all at once and possibly even to open them all in the editor at the same time?

I need a technical help. I finished a translation and stored it in CrossTank, now and I have identical segments in a new project but the CAT Tool doesn't recognize them and I have to translate them all over again, why?
What do I have to do in order to have the segments previously translated recognized in the new project?

I am also experiencing the same problem, I have followed Liselotte's instructions but the crossview is not displayed anymore as it used to on the left side :S Now I have to open it each time :S Isn't there a way to display it the same way it was displayed before?

Please open the context menu by right clicking on the menu bar. Then go to "Restore UI Settings" and all the closed windows will appear again and stay.

I am afraid, Across is one of the most user-enemy software I have ever seen.

I use it occasionally. I have extracted a list of the shortcut key combinations I use most often and keep it on my desk while working on Across.

The Across website offers some training videos. The user manual is quite comprehensive but I'll recommend watching the videos for the basics.

I hope that the project you have at hand is not very large. In any case, I need at least 30% and usually about 50% more time to complete a project as compared to other CAT tools or even word. So, make sure that you always set your rate accordingly and if they do not accept your across-adjusted rates, I can assure you that the whole process will be like hell for you.

Make sure that you got the basics before actually working on the project. You may face problems related to the servers. Do not try to solve them, you can't. Just call your client or better, the Across customer service. They are quite helpful, probably the only upside of the program.

I imagine you downloaded the 6.3 Translator Edition and that you have a CrossMarket account?

If so, did you activated the product successfully?

As said by Elif, there is a lot of documentation to start with the soft.

Take time to see how it works standalone and then, you can say to a client he can send you a projet (a CAP file). Do not accept a translation without training before.

Hello,

A client would like me to install Across. According to the specifications it shouldn't work, because it requires Win 32-bit and I my PC is set up with Win 10 64-bit. However, the client insists that it's possible to install it anyway, but that some features might be restricted.

I tried to install it, but the installation won't work. Is the client right? Do I need to take a closer look at my computer setup and change/fix something, or shouldn't I bother because the client is wrong?

Hello

I don't know this specific piece of software, but from a general point of view, a programme designed to run on a 32-bit platform will always run on a 64-bit computer. But a 64-bit programme will not run on a 32-bit platform.

So my guess is that, if installation failed, it is probably that your system is missing some of the requirements listed here:

and not because you are running a 64-bit operating system. Only a few old computers still run 32-bit systems today.

Hello Anna,

as you can see with the picture below, Across Translator Edition 6.3 (French) runs without problem (and without restriction) on a Windows 10 - 64 bits machine as mine.

The only problem I met once was with the CodeMeter software version.

Don't forget to open a CrossMarket account.

Thanks for your replies. It's good to hear that it should be possible. It seems like the problem is due to Microsoft Visual C++ 2012. It needs to be reinstalled, but my computer is having problems with it. I'm hoping to find the solution soon...
