I once (many years ago when Across was still a free tool) talked to a salesperson at Across Germany, she told me that they where not seeking compatibility with other CAT tools. So this is corporate policy.

Auto propagation not as expected

All,

I have a task consisting of 10,890 segments and I need to make changes to segments that occur multiple times. The changes are commas to decimal points. For example: “1866 (73,5)” to “1866 (73.5)”. The segments that I am changing have the status “translated”.

What happens is as follows:
- I edit a segment and confirm with “Alt” + “R”
- The Auto-propagation progress bar appears and shows gradual progress from 0 to 100%
- The Auto-propagate window opens with the following message: This paragraph exists 453 times in the current document. Would you like Across to insert your translation into the other paragraphs? [Yes] [Yes to All] [No]
- I click yes
- The Auto-propagation progress bar appears and shows gradual progress from 0 to 100%

After all of this, a segment two rows below the segment that I have just edited and that contains exactly the same text of the edited segment (prior to edit), in this example “1866 (73,5)”, remains unchanged.
I had expected that it would change and all other 452 segments too.

I am using the following settings under User Settings – crossDesk – Auto-propagate:
Enable auto-propagation of translation: ticked
Only propagate in untouched paragraphs: not ticked
Auto-propagte paragraph state: ticked

What am I missing?
What happens when the Auto-propagation progress bar appears before I make my selection in the Auto-propagate window?
What happens when the Auto-propagation progress bar appears again after my selection?

I would be very grateful for any hints.

All,

all of a sudden, some keyboard shortcuts that I use for navigation appear to have stopped working on my Premium Edition 7.0 12762 while others still work.

Alt+Down Arrow – Go to next paragraph: not working
Alt+Right Arrow – Go to next untouched paragraph: not working
Ctrl+Alt+Enter – Set paragraph to a final editing state (e.g. Translated) and go to next paragraph: working
Alt+plus (number pad) – Go to next sentence or segment: working

Alt+Up Arrow – Go to previous paragraph: not working
Alt+minus (number pad) – Go to previous sentence or segment: working

I use Alt+Down Arrow and Alt+Right Arrow a lot. Ctrl+Alt+Enter and Alt+plus (number pad) give similar results when translating one segment (=paragraph) after another but I wonder what I have done to lose the function of these shuortcuts and how to restore it.

I have not systematically tested all shortcuts, so the list above is incomplete.

Any thoughts?

(external keyboard when the laptop is in the dock).

The shortcuts are also not working on the laptop keyboard.

I have not changed the keyboard and the shortcuts were working until last week.

Since v7 12762 shortcuts customization process in Across was changed (actually, improved).
Maybe it worth checking if mentioned shortcuts were modified or deleted?

Hi AAV,

many thanks for your comments and link.
I have checked my user settings and they are as per the factory settings and there are definitely some navigation shortcuts that do not work as shown in the table of the user settings.
I have since created a helpdesk ticket with Across.
They have advised to first update to the latest version and then try again.

I will post any progress.

I tried to install Across* (v6, I think) but it did not work with Windows 10.

(*just for fun, not for working with it, I had my share...) ;-)

I just installed v7 of Across, and I am getting that same error message about having an "invalid Translator Edition environment". The buttons say yes to repair it. It does nothing. And error message keeps coming back. If you click no, the application closes.

Anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it. Across support is practically non existent. I really don't like this CAT tool. I ALWAYS have problems with it. Unfortunately, one client (pretty big, John Deere) uses it. So, I am stuck with it for the time being.

Any help on fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated.

In a screenshot I see sub and superscript buttons, but I can't find them in my view. How can I add these

Thank you, but that is the problem...I can't seem to find them anywhere in any of the tools visible.
Can I write some code into the translated text. Like html, when you hover over the symbols they show html like text.
On their website the show some code with $ sign for subscript and superscript but not for emphasis.

Creation of User Identity Error

This has now happened two times within three months.
Suddenly and without any obvious warning signs, Across throws a ‘Creation of user identity’ error when I attempt to connect to a customer’s server, making it impossible to connect. In standalone mode everything works fine.

The Across Helpdesk has advised that the reason is a faulty Windows installation, namely a faulty WMI. Re-installing Windows fixed it the first time until it happened again.

Has anyone else experienced this? What could the reasons for the fault in the WMI be? Is there anything that I could do to prevent it from happening again?

Windows 10 Pro
Version 20H2
OS build 19042.867
Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0
64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Across Translator Premium Editionv7.0 14645_en
Package version: 21
